Motorists should be on the lookout for more than just petrol prices however, as they also should look at other benefits that may be available to them when setting their motoring budgets. For example, some insurance providers offer perks that are worthwhile for a free extra bucks since they save a reasonable chunk of change down the line such as free breakdown cover, reduced price MOTs, and free health checks in the winter.

Some tips offered to cut down the cost of motoring by Thomas include choosing a TPFT policy for cars that are of low value since excesses may cancel out the point of comprehensive cover.

He also stated that most premiums are based on the average amount of miles a driver covers per year so it is very harmful to overestimate your mileage instead keeping in mind that drivers can always adjust their mileage if they start to use it more frequently down the road.

Another helpful tip is to avoid the temptation to add modifications to a car since they are often seen as a safety risk and will increase the overall price of cover.

Finally, if it is within your power to do so, Thomas recommends paying the premium up front, since instalment plans often tack on extra charges.

The largest and most reliable of car insurance comparison companies in the U.K., according to the independent consumer information website MoneySavingExpert, is gocompare car insurance. This is an online organization with the capability of comparing both prices and features of various insurance policies offered by different companies with the aim of helping consumers make informed decisions about their car insurance.

The company, based in Newport, South Wales, was founded in 2006 and has grown considerably from a base of about 40 comparison companies to more than one hundred.

The fact that it focuses more on specific features of each policy rather than just prices led to Gocompare being invited to join BIBA (the British Insurance Brokers Association).

Gocompare has since won various awards for excellence, including the Fast Growth Business Award for ‘One to Watch’ in 2008 and the Investors in People award in 2009.

Hayley Parsons, the founder and CEO of Gocompare, has received several awards in her own right. She got the South Wales Chamber of Commerce ‘Women in Business’ award in 2009, and she won in the ‘Business Leader’ category of the 2010 Inspire Wales Awards.

Her philosophy regarding the Gocompare site is based on the belief that consumers want and need to have an unbiased, independent source of information that will save them time and eliminate confusion in their search for the most affordable and comprehensive insurance.

Overall, the Gocompare site has established itself as highly secure and accountable to consumers. The company has adopted the latest security technology from Internet Certification Authorities, insuring that users are protected from the various risks of identity theft and phishing attacks.

They also have possibly the most advanced computer network and correlation ability in their field, enabling the user to specify exact requirements and get a thoroughly researched synopsis of exactly what a policy offers. At the same time the Gocompare search can identify and compare specific prices for each feature and give a realistic quote for each individual policy.

Gocompare attempts to maximize its ease of use by offering a simple form that the consumer fills out online. It then compares the features and rates of about 110 car insurance companies using its trademark five star rating system to compare each company’s record of consumer satisfaction. Users can get a preliminary quote from as many companies as desired, with no charge from Gocompare, so the total final quote is the same as it would be if the user had gone directly to that company.

With ever increasing fuel prices due to the soaring cost of oil and various unrelated planned UK tax hikes, the cost of living is increasing ever higher.

There are many creative ways to improve fuel consumption; from chipping your engine management system to using magnets that are supposed to increase fuel burn by agitating fuel particles. Some may work; others may be products preying on those desperate to save money on their monthly bills. The fact remains that there are many less expensive and easier ways to save money when it comes to cutting your fuel bill.

Each of the 10 tips listed below may not increase fuel economy by much on their own but together they could you save a substantial amount of money on your fuel bill each month:

1: Keep your tyres inflated; fuel efficiency can be decreased by around 3% if they are below the manufacturers recommended pressure – also shortening their lifespan through increased wear.

2: Keep your car serviced; ensuring you replace your oil and air filters regularly and your engine well tuned will allow your vehicle to operate to its maximum level of efficiency.

3: Drive smoothly; Speeding away from traffic lights and junctions with rapid bursts of acceleration can use up to 60% more fuel than even paced and controlled acceleration.

4: Use your high gears; making sure you use the highest gear possible at all speeds (where safe and allowable) will improve your fuel economy as the engine will need to perform fewer revolutions to maintain its speed.

5: Stick to the speed limit; you will use much more fuel travelling at 80mph than at 70mph, in fact between 10-20% more in the majority of cases. Not forgetting the fact that it is also illegal to travel at this speed.

6: Air con; you should only use your air conditioning when absolutely necessary. At slow speeds and on urban journeys fuel consumption can be heavily effected. Smaller petrol engines suffer more than their larger petrol/diesel counterparts.

7: Walk where possible; this may seem an obvious piece of advice but many of us drive to our local shops each day when we could be walking. A cold engine can return half its usual fuel economy – go on, take a walk for that morning paper.

8: Don’t warm up in winter; hands up who’s guilty of leaving their car warming up on the drive in winter, we’ve all most probably considered it at some point. The fact is, it not only increases engine wear and increases the risk of it being stolen, but also waste’s large amounts of fuel in a cold and idling engine.

9: Don’t rev your engine unnecessarily; sitting at traffic lights revving your engine to impress the car next to you wastes a large amount of fuel needlessly and also makes you look like a fool.

10: Watch the road ahead; keeping an eye on the road ahead for changing driving conditions which could mean you have to brake. Easing off on the accelerator and maintaining a constant speed (cruise control can be handy for this) will really improve your fuel economy on long motorway journeys.

There are about 150,000 annual cases of cars getting mistakenly fuelled by an owner, which is the act of placing diesel into a petrol car or petrol into a diesel car. The effects that are caused by this mistake would only be covered by about two thirds of car insurance policies.

The research from the BIBA also shows that diesel drivers are more likely to mis-fuel with 95% of the incidents involving drivers placing petrol into a diesel car.

Many car insurance companies will not cover the needed repairs from mis-fuelling if the car is driven after the incident if the driver knew about the incident given it would mean they failed to properly take care of their car.

Thus, if a motorist realizes that they have mis-fuelled, the BIBA advises drivers to leave the vehicle in the fuelling spot and alert the petrol station that they need it towed by a breakdown company.

Technical and corporate affairs executive Graeme Trudgill of the BIBA stated that anyone can mis-fuel because it is an easy mistake, but that motorists can get protection in the case of the incident by speaking to your insurance broker about a comprehensive policy that will cover risks that are not expected.

Michael Edwards, the BIBA insurance broker, stated that the most common times for misfuelling to occur are Friday evenings and Monday mornings because drivers are the most preoccupied with thoughts of the weekend or the long week coming up.

If you are looking to reduce your fuel costs then you might want to look at a new product that has just been released into the UK market. It is claimed that Motorsilk Engine Treatment will save you up to 15% on your fuel bills, being the the only product (worldwide) with ISO Approval. Motorsilk engine treatment is a revolutionary new product using a brand new technology called BoronCLS which actually treats the moving parts of your engine reducing friction and therefore results in improved mpg, and unlike other products this actually works.

Clive Perry, owner driver for courier firm Bluebell Express Couriers reported “The vehicle I use is a 2 litre Vauxhall Vivaro Diesel. I travel on average 2,000 miles / week, the majority on the motorways across the U.K. Before I was introduced to Motorsilk I was averaging 550 miles from an 80 litre tank of diesel. Since using the measured dose of Motorsilk every time I refuel I have been exceeding 670 miles per tank full of diesel”

However this product not only improves your mpg performance but it prolongs the life span of your engine, reducing your maintenance costs, and even reduces your engines C02 emissions. One treatment lasts for a staggering 30,000 miles.

It all sounds too good to be true, but extensive tests here in the UK by numerous private and fleet operators have proved otherwise. Even Millbrook Proving Ground (one of the industry’s leading test centres) says “average fuel consumption improved from 22.6 per litre to 28.1 per litre over a 2,000km distance” that is a staggering improvement of 19.6%. Plus the fact that this is the only engine treatment product available on the market with ISO approval.

This product is now being used in more than 10,000,000 vehicles worldwide. For a Special Introductory Offer go to www.motorsilk.webs.com e;motorsilksales@live.co.uk

The Volkswagen Group has signed a long-term contract with Allianz Insurance plc, effective January 1st this year. VIS director David Maloney said he feels that the partnership with Allianz will be highly beneficial to customers, and will support his company’s claim that they offer the best insurance in the industry.

VIS is now offering complimentary seven-day coverage to be introduced by the individual vehicle retailers, so that customers are insured and protected as they drive their new car off the lot. The annual insurance coverage is Defaqto rated with five stars, and will incorporate paint and body shops and parts stores that are approved by the Volkswagen Group.

Customers with this insurance package can be assured that fully trained technicians will be working on their car and that genuine Volkswagen Group parts are used in repairs, so a damaged vehicle will be returned to factory standards.

The seven-day drive away service has been on offer for the past three years and has been popular with customers and retailers. The annual coverage will be additionally promoted through new websites and telephone sales via a call centre in Bristol, operated by Allianz.

Both the Volkswagen Group and Allianz Insurance have expressed great confidence in the outcome of the partnership. Their feeling is that customers will be very pleased with the quality of service, and they are expecting to extend the relationship into other product areas.

This scam, which is illegal, has become more popular in light of the economic downtown, and is hurting the insurance industry according to figures that were released today.

While most think of it as a ‘tiny white lie’ prompting the high number of offenders, it is actually a serious offence that is referred to by insurance companies as fronting.

Over the past two years the amount of fronting cases have almost doubled as drivers who need to save money have looked into drastic ways that they can reduce their monthly premiums. Ironically, as this action is actually insurance fraud it is tacking on average another £30 to the policies of drivers who do have properly issued insurance.

Insurers believe that up to 36,000 parents may participate in the fraud according to a survey and research completed by the Motor Insurance Bureau and Aviva.

Fronting is actually defined as an instance in which an older and more experienced driver is listed as the main driver of a vehicle, although the car actually belongs to a higher risk and younger driver that is only listed as a named driver on the insurance premium.

By listing the younger driver as a partner or spouse parents can knock down the overall costs of insurance even more.

According to highly respected breakdown and motor insurance company the AA, the number of times ordinary motorists are being pulled over by police in cases of mistaken identity is on a steep upward curve.

The motoring institution says that police are pulling people over to check if they are driving with a viable licence and are then subject to scrutiny about their identity. Not that these members of the motoring public are convicts on the run, simply that police number plate recognition technology is wrongly identifying the vehicles ID.

The AA say they are receiving approximately 20 calls a week from various police authorities asking for confirmation of insurance as quite often these drivers with mistaken identity and a genuine licence actually do not have insurance.

This techno slip is proving to be pretty successful in inadvertently catching those on the roads without proper insurance.

In second place was Nottingham followed by the West Yorkshire town of Bradford, Manchester, and the South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.

However, Humberside Police denied that crime is rising in Hull, instead pointing to evidence that motor theft has actually reduced over the past year.

The Insurance company stated that there has been a national reduction in car theft over the last year although there are still some towns that pose more of a theft, especially cities found in North England and the Midlands.

On the flip side of the index, Swindon was found to be the safest place to leave a motor vehicle followed in second place by Cheltenham. Rounding out the top five safest places to leave a motor vehicle were Southampton, Solihull, and Bangor.

Endsleigh Insurance compiled the figures by looking over the last three years of motor claims from tens of thousands of British motor insurance policy holders.

Stuart Wartalsi, an employee of the company, stated that the risk of theft is the highest after the holidays when cars are targeted that have cameras, DVDS, satnavs, and laptops inside of them.

Wartalsi advised motorists that they should always hide any valuables under the seat, in the trunk, or out of sight somewhere within the vehicle and that a car should be outfit with an alarm even while parked in well lit areas.
