The model, the Range Rover Evoque, was previewed on July 1st at the 40th anniversary celebration of the motor brand with the design director of Range Rover calling the new coupe an evolution of the contemporary Range Rover design.

Once released the vehicle will be available in 160 countries and is due to officially be unveiled on September 30th at the Paris Motor Show.

As a signs of evolving to meet the new demands of the market, Land Rover has shrunk the overall size of the model in every conceivable way including a fuel consumption of just under 130g per kilometre and both two and four wheel drive versions.

Pictures that have been circulating the web show the model with a rising waistline, a falling roof, and a sweep of glass that wraparounds the entire length of the vehicle.

The new design for the Evoque is based on the Rover LRX concept which made its appearance in 2008 as a sportier alternative to the larger Range Rover vehicles and likely will compete for consumers that enjoy the sleek small appearance of Jeep Cherokees.

The interior of the car will be designed exclusively by Victoria Beckham.

He said that it is clear that the era of subsidies is now over, and automakers need to realistically consider what is affordable.
Despite Cable’s statements, he did make it clear that the Government is not completely abandoning the industry, and that there is potential funding available for research in carbon reduction measures.
Cable spoke at a London Conference organized by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders stating that he recognizes that the motor industry is an important part of the UK economy.
However, he said that the UK has to recognize that it is a different world and the future will be about the support of individual companies.
Some of the measures that may now be facing cuts include a promise by the Government last year to offer those who purchase electric cars a £5,000 subsidy. The past Government stated they would offer £250m in funding for the scheme which was to start in 2011 but the matter is now under active consideration.
However, senior industry officials stressed that there was still need to support the UK motor industry in an effort to alter the UK into a low carbon economy by reducing emissions from cars.
Co-chairman of the Automotive Council, Richard Perry Jones, stated that the UK is now a hub for hybrid and electric vehicle productions.

However, Hunter has now admitted that she created the story in order to hide the fact that she had crashed her boyfriend’s car, for which she was not covered to drive.

Hunter told Coventry Magistrates Court that she took her boyfriend’s Astra on April 28th without asking for permission, and then crashed it around 3am. She admitted to using the vehicle without insurance, failing to stop after causing an accident, and wasting police time.

Katie Barker the prosecutor told the court that she reported she had been raped and attacked, at which point paramedics recorded her as being hysterical. Residents nearby were reportedly disturbed and shocked to hear about the rape.

Barker added that Hunter had apologized for her behaviour and to the officers who spent a great amount of effort, money, and time on her case. The prosecutor added that it had a large effect on the community, and also may affect the way that testimony is treated of victims that have genuinely faced rape.

Hunter was released on bail and ordered to return back to court for sentencing on June 25th.

Another seven percent believe that green and amber lights will appear at the same time, which is something that does not happen, with another six guessing that the light will turn red with an amber signal.

Road safety experts were surprised and concerned to learn that only 48% of the UK’s 36m drivers are able to answer the question during driving theory tests, which may possibly be the reason for high accident rates near pedestrian crossings.

According to government statistics, 19% of pedestrians that are struck are on marked crossings and an additional 12% were within 50m of one.

The last set of Department for Transport figures available from 2008 state that drivers that failed to look at crossings correctly were to blame in about 21% of all accidents involving pedestrians and 7% of the accidents were caused by reckless of speeding motorists.

The Pedestrian Association now known as Living Streets has called for drivers who red lights to be prosecuted more and the launch of a new Government campaign that will educate drivers on pedestrian road safety.

It also asks that the time for pedestrians to cross walks will not be shortened by six minutes as was proposed in London last year in order to reduce congestion.

According to the most recent report by the AA, the M25 is the worst road in the UK when it comes to frequent road closures.

The report states that between the time period of January and August of 2009, the M25 was closed for a total of eight and a half days, which is over 200 hours, because of various incidents and accidents.

Also included in the AA list was the M2 which was closed a total of two days during the same time span.

After releasing the findings the AA is urging the Government to take proactive measures to combat road closures and congestions after accidents occur.

President of the AA Edmund King, stated that Britain needs to be much more advanced in their thinking style, when it comes to how road closures are handled.

King continued to say, that while it is understood that fatalities require investigation, at the same time, the way that traffic and closures are handled as a result, needs to be re-evaluated.

Additionally he stated that while the new rail systems are helpful, it is important to remember they do not solve the problem, since they account for only a small percentage of travellers, and that most people still rely on roadways.

Castrol Oil Company is taking a step forward in their advertising campaign by offering individualized billboard messages to passing motorists.

The idea is simple a camera reads passing vehicle registrations sending the information to the billboard which will then light up and tell the driver that Castrol oil is the top pick for their vehicle.

Castrol stated that this is the first time that personalized messages will be used on billboards in the UK. According to the company it only takes under two seconds to check the license registration so that the billboards can offer up personalized recommendations.

According to Castrol, London will have five trial sites set to be unveiled two weeks from this past Monday.

While Castrol seems thrilled about the advertising, the move makes the DVLA look even more money hungry as they have effectively sold the use of their registration data base to make more revenue off of drivers by selling the advertising rights.

The only question left unanswered is if Castrol should have to include all oils and not just their own, however given they have paid for the rights, it seems highly unlikely meaning that you really only get the best Castrol oil recommendations for your car not the true ‘best.’
