Every year about eight million parking tickets are given out, costing motorists around one billion pounds. The average fine for a parking ticket is £120 but if the violator pays the ticket within two weeks the ticket fine is cut in half to £60.
However, those that are towed or caught by a clamper can face penalties that add up to a few hundred pounds.
Most motorists pay their parking tickets without complaining, but for those that actually take the time to debate the penalty, the odds of winning the case in their favour is high.
In fact, 73% of motorists that followed their fines through to arbitration won without paying any fines according to research from appealnow.com. In fact, most cases were won without the council even taking the time to contest the appeal.
Fulham resident, Kitty Parry, aged 27, has received four parking violations over the past few months, two of which she got overturned on appeal.
Parry stated that the real problem is that there are not any vacant spaces to park in within London and that means that parking tickets unfortunately become a reality.
She continued to say that the two times she took the time to appeal them she did not have to worry about paying the fine. Instead of getting angry about the fine, she decided to put her frustration into fighting the fines, which means the only cost she has had to pay is the time it took to schedule an appeal.
